Mayan Roots

Mayan Black Salt is a special ingredient, as it is still considered sacred by the Maya. It was one of the early commodities of the ancient Maya, as it was harvested along riverbeds and transported to other communities. This salt is collected using centuries-old methods passed down through families in the highlands of Guatemala. It is a rigorous and ancient process, only practiced by few now.

Bees were considered holy by the ancient Maya. They were revered as symbols of fertility and even had their own deity: Ah-Muzen-Kab. They were some of the earliest beekeepers, as they harvested honey and beeswax for sacred rituals and looked after the bees so no harm would come to them. Our artisan mountain beeswax is harvested on a small-scale, using sustainable methods practiced by local farmers.

How To Use

Push up from the bottom of the tube. Peel off the wax paper around the deodorant. Apply like any other solid deodorant. It may feel a tiny bit sticky for the first couple of minutes (because of the beeswax), but this passes as it is absorbed. Massage in with fingers. Re-apply as necessary.

Why it works - the clay is rich is calcite, iron and other minerals and has a low PH which is unusual for a clay - often clay masks recommend combining with apple cider vinegar or other low PH product in order to lower the PH. The lower PH is important because the higher (more alkaline) the PH of the skin, the more possibility there is of body-odor producing bacteria. The yin to the clay’s yang is the volcanic sulfur, hand collected from the active volcanoes in Guatemala.
