Description

We live in a humid, tropical climate so we understand the importance of a good deodorant. That is why we developed ours using key ingredients that have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that get to the root cause of armpit odor, bacteria, without the cost of any harmful synthetic ingredients or chemicals that can break down your armpit skin’s natural barrier and microbiome.

HELPS ELIMINATE ODOR-CAUSING BACTERIA
Copal and lemongrass possess powerful anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and work together to help eradicate the bacteria in armpits that cause unwanted odor. Not only do they help eliminate the odor, but they also leave armpits with a fresh, natural, and herbal aroma that is unisex. Our copal is wild harvested from the Mayan village of Uaxactún. Our lemongrass, which is a traditional scent of Mesoamérica, comes directly from our garden.

PROMOTES SKIN HEALTH
Cocoa butter and coconut oil, which are also locally and sustainably sourced, both act to protect and moisturize skin. Believe it or not, our armpits are home to 20 lymphnodes. We aren’t here to give you a biology lesson but our lymhnodes are a vitally important part of our immune system and serve to filter out toxins from our tissues. Our armpits deserve to be cared for in a way that reflects their fundamentally important role as a part of our body. Our natural ingredients help to nourish and protect our armpit’s and show them the love they deserve.

Mayan Roots

Copal has been used traditionally by the Maya in Guatemala for burning during sacred ceremonies and is believed to purify the air and spirit. To the ancient Maya, the divine God of the Earth extracted Copal resin from the Tree of Life and gave it to the humans as a gift. It is a resin similar to amber with a smoky, sweet aroma. The organic Copal we use for Tierra & Lava products is harvested from trees in the Uaxactun village and Mayan site of Guatemala (just behind Tikal).

Cacao was termed the ‘Food of the Gods’ by the ancient Maya and was even used as a form of currency. Roasted and fermented Cacao beans were prepared with spices and hot chili pepper as a special drink. Our Cacao comes from an organic farm in the Izabal region of Guatemala on the Pacific Coast where Cacao was first cultivated.

Lemongrass is locally known as ‘fever grass’ to Mayan healers. A tea is typically prepared with fresh honey and helps the body naturally fight off infection and balance body temperature when one is sick with a fever. We source our lemongrass straight from our organic garden.

OUR MUST-HAVE “ARMPIT DETOX”

If you are new to natural deodorants or have been looking around for one, you may be aware of the stinky ‘transition period’ during which your body adjusts to using a natural deodorant in place of your previous ones.  This can be an awkward time to get through as no-one wants to have bad smelling armpits in a business meeting or in public.

This is where our ‘Armpit Detox’ provides an unmatched value. Not only does it eliminate the whole transition period, meaning that our deodorant is effective immediately, but it is also a fun, novel experience for a part of the body that doesn’t normally get this kind of attention. Treat yourself to an armpit mask with Mayan Red Clay and Volcanic Sulphur and see the difference for yourself.

Why it works - the clay is rich is calcite, iron and other minerals and has a low PH which is unusual for a clay - often clay masks recommend combining with apple cider vinegar or other low PH product in order to lower the PH. The lower PH is important because the higher (more alkaline) the PH of the skin, the more possibility there is of body-odor producing bacteria. The yin to the clay’s yang is the volcanic sulfur, hand collected from the active volcanoes in Guatemala. Sulphur works to dry out problem areas while exfoliating and shedding dead skin cells to make way for newer healthy skin, which kills bacteria and prevents it from spreading.

Instructions: Mix the contents of the sachet with a little water to make a paste. Apply the paste to the armpits and let it dry for 10-15min. Rinse in the shower.
